Estranged husband of murdered woman arrested after allegedly refusing to surrender passport
SEATTLE -- Bothell police served a search warrant to seize the passport of Allan Smith, estranged husband of Susann Smith, who was found murdered in her home on Feb. 12.
Detectives went to Smith's home about 9 a.m. Thursday. When they spoke with him, he refused to surrender his passport and was argumentative with the officers, Sgt. Cedric Collins said. Smith was arrested for obstruction and is being interviewed at the Bothell police station.
At this time, it is unknown if he will be charged or if he will be released.
About 10 a.m. in the morning on Feb. 12, police were called to Susann Smith's home in the 200 block of 240th Street Southwest after she failed to show up at work and her co-workers became worried. Collins said that when the officers arrived at the home, they checked inside and found Smith dead. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner later determined she had died from head injuries.
At the time, Smith was going through a divorce. She and her husband have two children under the age of 10. At the time of the incident, the children were not at home.
"It's pretty spooky,” neighbor Barry Sapsford said Wednesday. “It's sad. I know she had kids. I didn't know them that well, but I know they had kids. She was a nice lady. It's always sad with kids involved.”
Investigators have been looking for suspects and a motive for the killing.
Anyone with information about the crime should call Bothell police or 911.
