Fed-Ex warehouse evacuated over hazardous materials scare
KENT - A chemical spill at a Kent warehouse forced workers to evacuate the Fed-Ex facility late Wednesday night.
Firefighters from the Kent Regional Fire Authority responded to a reported chemical leak at the building in the 6200 block of South 228th Street, Kent FD reported.
An employee driving a forklift inside the warehouse accidentally punctured a 55 gallon drum, a fire department spokesman told Q13FOX News.
About 30 employees evacuated the warehouse and waited in the parking lot for the fire crew crews to arrive, Kent FD said.
King County Medic One paramedics evaluated the forklift driver for exposure. The employee was treated and not transported to the hospital, according to Kent FD.
Kent Fire Department's Hazmat team determined that the spill was not hazardous, as the punctured drum contained Organic Peroxide.
Kent FD said that the spill was contained and did not reach any of the storm drains at the facility.
All employees returned to work and a special clean-up crew was called into to remove the spill.
