Fire destroys Lastaedian Lutheran Church in Maltby

Crews spent Friday morning putting out hot spots after a fire broke out at a church in Maltby, near Woodinville.

The fire happened around 2:30 a.m. at the Seattle Laestadian Lutheran Church off Paradise Lake Road 102nd Avenue Southeast. By the time they responded, it was too late. Now, little remains of the structure.

"When crews first got here, they had fire through the roof," said Battalion Chief Evan Adolf with Snohomish Fire and Rescue. "So fire was inside at that point. Where it started, we don't know."

With help from Eastside Fire and Rescue and Woodinville Fire, crews were able to put out the flames.

"Churches, you know, there are a lot of open spaces," Adolf said. "There's fuel with benches and who knows what's on the walls. They do spread pretty quickly."

Congregants say they plan to hold church services somewhere else, whether that be at someone's home or an outdoor venue.

No injuries were reported.

It's unknown how the fire started. An investigation is ongoing.
