Gov. Jay Inslee presents Climate Action bill
OLYMPIA -- Gov. Jay Inslee is taking part in the House Environment Committee meeting Tuesday morning to talk about his new Climate Action bill. The bill would evaluate the climate in pollution reduction programs of other states and Canadian provinces. It would also call on the governor and other state lawmakers to develop policies that would force the Washington to meet certain climate pollution limits by 2020.
According to the Washington Environment Council, the governor's Climate Action bill is part of the environmental community's Clean Energy Solutions Environmental Priority, which also includes making solar energy more affordable and accessible. The bill also seeks to close at $63 million tax loophole for oil companies.
The Tacoma News-Tribune reported that the bill is finding some bipartisan support, and that Republican Sen. Doug Ericksen has pledged his support of the governor's bill.
