Joy ride in stolen vehicle puts teen in hospital
A Tacoma 12 year old is recovering from a serious head injury after surviving a crash with two friends in a stolen car.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, a security guard at the University of Puget Sound saw three boys acting suspiciously near a Nissan Xterra just after midnight Tuesday.
They climbed into the car as the guard approached and drove off. When the guard found broken glass, he realized the vehicle was being stolen and called police.
Two hours later an employee at Metropolitan Market on North Proctor spotted the boys loading watermelons from a display outside the store into the vehicle.
The boys sped off in the Xterra, slammed into the employee’s car, then crashed on North 28th.
Police arrested two boys, ages 15 and 13. They transported the 12 year old to a hospital, where he underwent surgery for a head injury.
