Lawyers for school shooting suspect ask judge to recuse self
SPOKANE, Wash. — Lawyers for the person charged with shooting four people, one fatally, at Freeman High School are asking the judge to recuse himself from the case.
Defense attorney Brooke Foley filed the motion last week, contending Spokane County Superior Court Judge Michael Price “can no longer appear impartial” in the case.
Caleb Sharpe is charged with killing one student and wounding three others during the 2017 shootings at the rural high school south of Spokane. He will be tried as an adult.
KREM-TV reports that defense lawyers contend that the judge showed he was no longer impartial in comments about the case he made in July, when he ruled that Sharpe will be tried as an adult. Sharpe was 15 at the time of the shootings and is 18 now.
