Massive evergreen crushes Poulsbo home, injures mother inside
POULSBO, Wash. -- Ruben Lopez said he saw the massive evergreen out his back window as it swayed in the wind before toppling over and crashing onto his home.
"I told my wife, 'Hey, get the kids, get our son and she ran but it was too late, the tree was already coming down," Lopez said.
The tree smashed through the roof and crashed down into the kitchen and the living room. Branches and sheet rock covered Ruben's 6-year-old son.
"I thought he was dead," Lopez explained. "Really. Right when I saw him, I grabbed him and he was OK. He said, 'I’m OK, dad, I’m OK.' And I'm like thank God."
Ruben's wife, Norma, suffered a major injury to her arm. Doctors say her left arm is shattered but she should fully recover.
Lopez says they will stay with family, but their home is in shambles. His three children were able to get out without a scratch. Their home is insured.
Meanwhile, a woman in Renton was trapped in her car for about three hours. Renton police said the car was caught by a downed tree in power lines, and she had to wait for Puget Sound Energy crews to come out and turn off the power lines before she could leave her car.
