Packers release special teams coach less than 2 weeks after loss to Seahawks
GREEN BAY -- The Green Bay Packers have released special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum, the team announced Friday, less than two weeks after two special team miscues contributed to a Packer overtime loss in the NFC Championship game.
Head Coach Mike McCarthy announced the move:
“I would like to thank Shawn for all of his contributions over the past nine years,” McCarthy said. “He was a positive contributor to our success, including helping us win Super Bowl XLV. We wish Shawn, Michelle and their family the best moving forward.”
The Seattle Seahawks beat the Packers 28-22 in overtime in the NFC Championship game, in large part to their special teams play. The Seahawks connected on their first touchdown with a fake field goal TD pass from John Ryan in the 3rd Quarter. The Hawks also recovered an onside kick late in the 4th Quarter, securing a final drive.
