Police: Mini poodle 'humping' dispute leads to assault, stolen glasses

SEATTLE -- Officers arrested a woman Thursday after she allegedly assaulted a dog owner during a dog "humping" dispute at a local park, Seattle police said.

Police were called to a dog park around 9:50 a.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Pike Street with reports of assault. The victim met police and told officers that shortly after she arrived at the park, a small grey mini-poodle began harassing her dog and "humping" it, reports show.

The victim told police she tried to shoo the "offending" dog away, but was unsuccessful. The victim then tried to grab the poodle off her dog after she felt threatened, police said.

"At one point the offending dog nipped at (the victim) so she grabbed the dog by the scruff to get it away from her own dog," police wrote.

As the victim tried to pull the dogs apart, the poodle's owner allegedly began to yell at the victim and told her not to touch the dogs. A friend of the suspect stood up, police said, and "aggressively shoulder checked" the victim. The suspect then allegedly spat in the victim's face, and grabbed a pair of glasses off the victim's head. The suspect allegedly attempted to break the glasses, but couldn't.

The victim told police she tried to reason with the suspect and her friend, but they left the park, and kept the glasses.

Police interviewed a witness who told officers where the suspect lived. She was arrested for suspicion of theft and and assault.

Dan Donohoe with the King County Prosecutor's Office said the case is under review and charges are pending.
