Report: Boeing may furlough defense division workers
SEATTLE -- The federal government shutdown is negatively impacting the nation's aerospace sector. Workers in Boeing's defense and space operations division could be sent home as early as next week because of the budget impasse in Washington, D.C.
According to The Seattle Times, deliveries from Boeing's 787 factory in Charleston, S.C., and deliveries from planes with new configurations are in jeopardy because they must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. It's not clear how many Boeing employees would be impacted.
Lockheed Martin plans to furlough at least 3,000 workers starting Monday. Defense contractor United Technologies announced it may furlough 5,000 workers based in the U.S. if the shutdown continues into next month.
