Departures from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are delayed due to weather on Thursday, July 16.
SEATTLE - The Federal Aviation Administration has lifted the ground stops for flights bound for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Thursday morning after severe thunderstorms moved through the area. However, the airport is now reporting hundreds of residual delays.

According to FlightAware, departure delays at Sea-Tac Airport averaged one hour and 13 minutes and were increasing as of 1 p.m. PDT.
Total flight disruptions at Sea-Tac on Thursday afternoon include:

FAA ground stop during thunderstorms
The backstory:
The temporary ground stop initially went into effect at 9:45 a.m. PDT and remained in place until approximately 11:15 a.m. PDT. During the storm, the FAA estimated a 30% to 60% probability that the grounding would be extended.
The restriction specifically halted departures heading to Seattle from three regional air traffic control zones—Salt Lake Center (ZLC), Oakland Center (ZOA), and Seattle Center (ZSE)—as well as five Canadian airports: Edmonton (CYEG), Vancouver (CYVR), Calgary (CYYC), Victoria (CYYJ), and Kelowna (CYLW).
