Seattle man booked into jail for vehicular homicide after fatal Renton crash

RENTON, Wash. -- A Seattle man who allegedly caused a three-vehicle collision in Renton on Wednesday that killed a woman has been booked into jail for vehicular homicide, the Renton Police Department said Friday.

Police said the 36-year-old suspect was believed to be under the influence.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Shattuck Avenue South and South Grady Way.

Police said that initial indications were that a beige sedan driven by the suspect had entered the intersection against a red light, striking the side of a second sedan at high speed. The force of the collision caused the second sedan to strike a third vehicle, a dark SUV.

The driver of the second sedan, 58-year-old Verda January,  of Seattle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that January’s death was caused by multiple blunt-force trauma.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Renton Police Department.
