Sheriff deputy's car collides with other car, killing driver
UPDATE: The 17-year-old driver of the Acura died Sunday at Harborview Medical Center from his injuries.
KENT - Police are investigating a two-car collision between a King County Sheriff deputy's patrol car and a car full of teenagers, that may have been racing. The accident happened just after midnight Sunday near the intersection of South 196th Street and 68th Avenue South in Kent, Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West said. The deputy's car was traveling south on 68th Avenue South when it collided with an Acura that was going east on South 196th St. The driver of the Acura was a 17-year-old boy who had two teenage passengers in the car.
West said that the intersection is controlled by a traffic signal and both vehicles entered the intersection around the same time. The patrol car struck the driver's side of the Acura. Medics transported the driver to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with critical injuries. The two other teens, a boy and a girl, were treated for their injuries at the scene. One of the teens told investigators that prior to the collision, they had been racing, West said.
The deputy was transported to Valley Medical Center in Kent with a broken wrist.
There are no indications of alcohol or drugs at the scene of the collision, West said.
