Sheriff's deputy suffers serious injuries in patrol car crash
SHORELINE -- A King County sheriff's deputy suffered serious injuries when he crashed his patrol car into a fire hydrant while on his way to a chase call.
Just before 11:30 p.m. Monday, dispatchers received a call from a Shoreline area resident who said a King County sheriff's deputy patrol car crashed near the intersection of North Richmond Beach Road and Dayton Avenue North in Shoreline. It appeared the deputy's car hit an embankment then a fire hydrant, the caller said.
Emergency crews drove to the scene and found the wrecked patrol car with the siren still on, King County sheriff's officials said. The deputy suffered a head injury and was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.
Officials learned that before the crash, the deputy was on his way to help another deputy who was chasing a wanted man by foot near the Fred Meyers at the intersection of North 185th Street and Aurora Avenue. That suspect was later caught and arrested, deputies said.
The King County Sheriff's Office Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
