Snoqualmie Pass prepares for more snow overnight
SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. - Those who live and work in the Snoqualmie Pass area are keeping a close eye on the forecast.
Local perspective:
I-90 was looking good Monday afternoon. Salt trucks appeared to be running throughout the evening in preparation of possible overnight snow.
Skiers Bella Douglas and Cody Morse enjoyed ideal conditions at The Summit Monday night.
"It’s just a fun way to get outside during the winter," said Douglas.
"It’s nice to come up here after work to get some runs in," said Morse. "Just enjoying the fresh powder from the weekend."
The regulars say it's usually not that packed on the slopes.
"When it was icy there was no one up here, but now there are tons of people around," said Morse.
In places like Easton, the side roads were also snow-covered and icy.
Judith Challoner lives in North Bend. She says heavy snow is normal for the area.
"Can’t you tell by the boots?," she said, pointing to her footwear.
She says she doesn't worry about the snow until it's hip-high, and she can no longer do chores. On Monday, she was on her weekly grocery run.
"Fruits and veggies, we are vegetarian, stuff to make quesadillas," said Challoner.
She says her house is typically prepped for severe weather.
"We always have gas, petrol for the generator and our Jackery is always topped up. There’s usually extra water in the house and extension cords at the ready," Challoner said.
The Flores family got through the pass before any big snow hit.
"We are trying to beat the storm to Seattle," said Tayna Flores.
Flores says while visiting family in Yakima, they kept an eye on the weather reports.
"They kept tracking the weather, saying ‘Oh, Snoqualmie Pass might close down, they are going to get quite a bit of snow, there’s a snow storm coming," said Tayna Flores.
The family wanted to make sure snow didn't stop them from catching a flight back to Japan.
"We have a military rotator that leaves tomorrow morning," said Flores.
Although Adriana Flores loves the snow, just don't ask her too many questions about the weather.
"I like to play with my friends," said Adriana. "I might look old, but I’m actually only in second grade, and I’m only seven. So, just don’t ask any questions about what a third-grader would be asking."
Meanwhile, Bella and Cody hope more snow is on the way.
"There is a winter advisory. Hopefully we get some snow," said Morse.
"This whole week is a winter advisory," said Douglas.
