Seattle weather: Will snowy weather continue on Monday?
SEATTLE - After tracking scattered snow on Sunday morning in Western Washington, there's still a possibility for on-and-off rain/snow showers in the region through at least Monday (if not Tuesday as well).
Sunday daytime
Earlier this morning, snow was reported across many neighborhoods in Western Washington. For the most part, this only resulted in a light accumulation.
For the rest of the day Sunday, there could be a mix of rain/snow/sleet/small hail/graupel around western Washington – just like Saturday. We can’t rule out a spotty lightning strike.
Any scattered snow in the lowlands during the day will be fairly minor, only resulting in a light accumulation for most. With highs in the upper 30s, any brief coating on the ground will likely melt. However, we’re concerned about moisture refreezing tonight.

Over the mountains, avalanche danger is elevated in the backcountry. In total Sunday, there could be an extra two to five inches of snow over the passes.

Sunday night into Monday morning
Temperatures will cool faster tonight compared to Saturday evening. Isolated bands of snow will continue Sunday evening through Monday. The big concern overnight will be icy roads.
We lose a lot of additional moisture after midnight, and showers will be far less widespread Monday morning. However, any precipitation that falls overnight will be in the form of snow - potentially leading to minor accumulations where this happens.
This is a "feast or famine" scenario where some communities get nothing while others see a little coating of snow on the ground. Read below for snow amounts and impacts.
For kids who are hoping for a delay or cancelation on Monday morning: the weather will be a disappointment for most locations. Ice could certainly warrant delays in some areas – it’s difficult to say exactly at this point.
Western Whatcom or Skagit Counties - along with Western Clallam and Jefferson Counties - have a better chance for accumulating snow that may trigger at least some delays. There's still some uncertainty about how much snow may stack up in those areas. More details on that below.
Monday daytime
After a semi-quiet morning, another round of rain/snow could develop in the South Sound by around noon Monday. This could become more extensive around Puget Sound through the rest of the day. Should this band be heavy enough, the primary precipitation could be snow. Under that, minor accumulations are possible. The evening commute could be slippery where this is happening.
Monday night
Unfortunately, ice will be an issue once again Monday evening. Any spotty snow that falls Monday evening could stick to the ground. Stick with us for further details.
Tuesday and beyond
While temperatures will remain cold with highs only in the mid 30s, the snow potential through the end of the week looks minimal. Showers look isolated at this point. Of course, stray snow and ice could slow traffic and lead to slick spots, but the rest of the seven day forecast beyond Tuesday doesn’t look terribly exciting at this point. We’ll keep you posted with the latest.
Active alerts in effect and snow totals
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the North and South Sound communities, eastern King/Snohomish/Pierce Counties and the Central and North Coast until 1 p.m. Monday. Remember: snow accumulation will be very neighborhood dependent and scattered in nature.
In western Whatcom and Skagit Counties between tonight and Monday, there may be between two and four plus inches of snow accumulating. There may be localized higher totals should stronger showers materialize.

For Eastern King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties, between two and four plus inches of snow could accumulate during this time. There may be higher totals in the higher elevations.

Tacoma could get upwards of an inch. Unless the forecast changes (which it may), as of Sunday afternoon – it looks like Everett and Seattle will likely get under an inch if anything at all.

For the South Sound and Southwest Interior, between one and four plus inches could stack up.

For the Central and North Coast of Washington, three to six inches are possible. However, there’s a scenario where there could be higher totals in Western Clallam and Jefferson Counties if intense bands of snow pop up. This might feel like a frustrating forecast because there are multiple possible outcomes – I just want you to be prepared for a range of how this may play out.

There might be higher totals where a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Southwest Washington, including the Willapa Hills.
There's a Cold Weather Advisory in effect for Bellingham and the San Juans between tonight and Wednesday. Wind chills could be as low as five to 15 degrees.
