Thanksgiving in jeopardy for thousands of people still without power

POULSBO, Wash. --  Nearly 4,000  people in Kitsap County were still without power Wednesday night, with many of them wondering if the lights would come back on in time for Thanksgiving.

Daniel Evans built a campfire in his front yard, so he and his family could stay warm while the power was out.

“I figured this was just the easiest way to deal with it right now, instead of dealing with a hotel and it (the power) coming right on when I do that.”

He said they lost power Tuesday, when he and his wife were at the store shopping for Thanksgiving.

“We go out, get all the stuff, bring it back and find this,” he said. “Hopefully it’s all surviving, luckily turkeys have to defrost. We’re fine there.”

Puget Sound Energy crews have been working throughout the day, trying to restore power to the thousands of customers affected by Tuesday's windstorms. Still, some are coming up with alternate plans for their holiday feast.

“I think we might just have peanut butter and jelly. That might be what our Thanksgiving is all about,” said Megan Livingston, who lives on Bainbridge Island.

Evans isn’t ready to call off his Thanksgiving yet. He saw crews starting to replace the power pole down his street Wednesday night, so he’s hopeful the lights and electricity would come back by morning.

“There’s the thing we get to give thanks for this year, we’ll call it that.”
