Tornado touches down in Spokane County

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down near Coulee City as severe weather hit the Inland Northwest.


The weather service confirmed the tornado touched down at about 3:30 p.m. Friday in the area, about 95 miles west of Spokane. It wasn't immediately known if any damage occurred due to the tornado.

The NWS in Spokane tweeted they were "noting it as an F0 (very weak) tornado." But said they had to go back to May 21, 2004, to find the last confirmed tornado in Spokane County.

The Spokesman-Review reports (http://goo.gl/pxEaFy ) Spokane saw one-inch hail fall in some areas along with wind and rain, at least one mudslide and a couple brush fires.

Avista Utilities says about 2,500 customers were without power Friday afternoon. There were also reports of downed power lines and trees in Spokane Valley.
