CA wildfires: Dozens of animals from Los Angeles shelters land in Seattle

Seattle Humane has received 39 dogs and 18 cats from Los Angeles area shelters, many of which are experiencing overcrowding due to the raging wildfires.

"It feels really great," said Alison Wasmer, animal care director of Seattle Humane. "We love being able to help all these pets and the city of Los Angeles.

The goal is to eventually help these animals find their forever homes. They will be checked into the organization's system on Monday and be up for adoption, some as early as Tuesday.

"Getting them off the plane was a team effort," said Jacob Beardsley. "I’m grateful for everyone that came out. We’re taking dogs anywhere from 15 pounds up to 90 pounds. It’s hard work, and it’s a team effort."

The animals transferred to Seattle were already in California’s shelter system before the wildfires hit. They’d been looking for homes for weeks and months but were unable to be housed.

Seattle Humane partnered with Paws for Life K9 Rescue and Wings of Rescue, a non-profit, to help fly these pets from Burbank Airport to Boeing Field.
