Woodland triple homicide suspect could get death penalty
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — A man accused of killing three people and shooting another at a home near Woodland now faces charges that could bring the death penalty, though Gov. Jay Inslee has imposed a moratorium on capital punishment.
The Columbian reports that the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney's Office amended the charges against Brent Luyster to aggravated murder on Wednesday. He also is accused of attempted murder and unlawful possession of a gun.
Prosecutors have 30 days to decide whether to seek the death penalty against Luyster.
The 35-year-old suspect is accused of fatally shooting Joseph Mark Lamar, Zachary David Thompson and Janell Renee Knight on July 15.
A fourth victim had driven herself to a convenience store to get help. She was hospitalized and had a bullet removed from her head.
Authorities haven't yet revealed a motive for the shooting.
