Mariners lose Game 4, 9-3, to Tigers - 3:05 p.m.
The Mariners gave up a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning with home runs from Riley Greene, Javier Báez and Gleyber Torres against Seattle's bullpen, forcing a decisive Game 5 at T-Mobile Park on Friday.
Presumptive AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal is set to take the mound for Detroit in the decisive game of the series.
Seattle hasn't announced a starter for Game 5, but George Kirby and Luis Castillo are potential options. Kirby would be pitching on five days rest and Castillo on four days rest after starting Game 1 and 2, respectively.
Game 5 is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. PT, but will move to 5:08 p.m. PT if the New York Yankees-Toronto Blue Jays series ends in Game 4.
Tigers power surge extends Detroit lead - 2:35 p.m.
The offensive onslaught from Detroit continues as Gleyber Torres drives a Carlos Vargas pitch over the right field fence for a solo home run and an 8-3 Tigers lead.
A lead-off single from Josh Naylor in the eighth inning provided some hope of a Seattle comeback, but it was quickly ended on a double play ball from Eugenio Suárez.
Zach McKinstry singled and Dillon Dingler walked in the eighth inning as the Mariners had to go to Luke Jackson in the bullpen. Randy Arozarena ran down a deep fly to left field from Wenceel Pérez that advanced McKinstry to third. Javier Báez beats out a relay throw on a potential double play as McKinstry scores to make it a 9-3 Detroit lead.
Riley Greene, Javier Báez home runs gives Tigers the lead - 2:10 p.m.
Riley Greene crushed a 1-0 slider from Gabe Speier deep to right field to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The home run ended Speier's outing as manager Dan Wilson goes to Eduard Bazardo with no outs in the sixth.
Spencer Torkelson doubled down the left field line off Bazardo and scored on an RBI single to right from Zach McKinstry as Detroit's lead pushed to 5-3.
Bazardo picked off McKinstry at first base to steal the first out of the inning. Detroit challenged the call, but the out was confirmed on review. Bazardo struck out Dillon Dingler looking on the next pitch to quickly get a second out for Seattle to briefly stop the bleeding. Wenceel Pérez doubled into the right field corner to threatened further damage.
It came quickly with a two-run blast to left field from Javier Báez off Bazardo to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead.
A fly out to center field from Kerry Carpenter finally ended the inning, but the Mariners are now chasing in Game 4.
Tigers rally to tie game at 3-3 in the 5th inning - 1:50 p.m.
A lead-off single from Spencer Torkelson – just the third against Bryce Miller – gave the Tigers some life in the fifth inning. After a fielder's choice groundout by Zach McKinstry, Dillon Dingler ripped a one-out double into the gap in left-center field that scored McKinstry all the way from first for Detroit's first run of the game.
Seattle manager Dan Wilson quickly pulled Miller and turned to left-hander Gabe Speier.
Pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones doubled to left field off Speier to score Dingler, and Javier Báez followed with an RBI single to center as the Tigers tied the game at 3-3.
A groundout from Kerry Carpenter gave Speier two outs, but Báez advanced to third to put the go-ahead run 90-feet away. But Speier got Colt Keith to groundout to first base to end the inning and keep the game tied.
Cal Raleigh's RBI single extends the lead to 3-0 in the 5th - 1:30 p.m.
Randy Arozarena led off the fifth inning with a single to left field and moved to second base on a wild pitch from Detroit reliever Kyle Finnegan. The extra base allowed Arozarena to score on Cal Raleigh's single to right field that gave Seattle a 3-0 lead.
Mariners push lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning - 1:15 p.m.
Detroit flinches first with manager A.J. Hinch pulling Casey Mize and turning to left-hander Tyler Holton.
Seattle gets a break with a bouncing ball that goes off the glove of Holton before handcuffing Javier Báez at shortstop for a lead-off single. Eugenio Suárez follows with a single to left field and pinch-hitter Mitch Garver battles back from an 0-2 hole to walk and load the bases.
Hinch goes back to the bullpen to bring in right-handed Kyle Finnegan to face Victor Robles. Finnegan gets Robles to ground into a double play that scored Josh Naylor to extend the lead to 2-0.
J.P. Crawford popped out to end the threat with just the one run across.
In Detroit's half of the inning, Naylor made a terrific defensive play at first base to help out Bryce Miller. Naylor snared a hot shot one-hopper from Colt Keith that runner Gleyber Torres thought he had caught cleanly. The result was an unassisted double play that kept a clean card for Miller.

Bryce Miller cruises through the third inning as the Mariners hold a 1-0 lead - 1:00 p.m.
Mariners starter Bryce Miller has allowed just one hit through three innings with two strikeouts for Seattle. A pair of infield pop-ups and a strikeout of Kerry Carpenter marked a clean third inning for Miller.
Manager Dan Wilson will face a decision when the top of the lineup comes around for a third time. The left-handed bats of Carpenter, Colt Keith and Riley Greene could lead Wilson to turn to the bullpen instead of letting Miller face them a third time. However, Miller has looked maybe the best he's been all year through three for Seattle.
The Mariners take a 1-0 lead in the second inning - 12:33 p.m.
Josh Naylor ripped a hanging sinker from Casey Mize into the right field corner to become the first baserunner of the game. A two-out RBI single to right field from Dominic Canzone was enough to score Naylor from second as the Mariners struck first in Game 4.
Mize walked Victor Robles as Seattle threatened to do further damage in the inning, but a J.P. Crawford strikeout allowed Mize to escape with just the one run allowed.
Detroit's Game 1 hero, Zach McKinstry, lines a two-out single to center field for Detroit's first hit of the game in the bottom of the second, but catcher Dillon Dingler flies out to center field as Bryce Miller is through two innings on 25 pitches for Seattle.
Dueling 1-2-3 innings for Casey Mize and Bryce Miller in the first inning - 12:25 p.m.
A 1-2-3 first inning for the Mariners, but Seattle sees 17 pitches off Detroit starter Casey Mize as he has to work for it. Bryce Miller responds with a 1 2-3 first inning as well for Seattle, cutting down the Tigers in 13 pitches. Miller's fastball is hitting 97 mph and looks sharp, including getting Gleyber Torres to whiff on an elevated fastball for his first strikeout of the game.
On the 30-year anniversary of Edgar's double, the Mariners look for another trip to ALCS - 12:08 p.m.
It's 30 years to the day since Edgar Martínez's double in Game 5 of the 1995 ALDS sent the Seattle Mariners to the ALCS for the first time in franchise history. The Mariners can make it to the ALCS for the fourth time ever with a win in Game 4 over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Seattle Mariners to start Bryce Miller for game 4 of the ALDS - 11:30 a.m.
Bryce Miller will take the mound for the Seattle Mariners with a chance to lead the team to the ALCS for the first time since 2001. Detroit will send right-hander Casey Mize to the mound in an elimination game for the Tigers.
