After dealing with skyrocketing fire danger and bad smoke this weekend, cleaner and cooler air is on tap for Western Washington today.

Two hikers got trapped near the summit of Baring Mountain just as the Bolt Creek Fire started raging over the ridges Saturday.  

The cloud cover, cooler temperatures, showers, thunderstorms, and cleaner air will resume this week as we get ready for a a new system!

The Federal Emergency Management Agency authorized funds to support firefighting efforts for the Bolt Creek Fire, which has burned around 7,600 acres near Skykomish.

Air quality remains poor around the North Sound region today, but cleaner air is possible for the lowlands tonight into early Monday.

Air quality will remain poor as we head into Sunday. Smoky conditions will start to improve tomorrow evening and onshore flow returns! Here is a look at what we can expect:

The Bolt Creek Fire burning near Skykomish has forced roads to close, and hundreds of people to evacuate their homes – but it has also led to confusion as evacuation alerts were mistakenly sent to people throughout Snohomish County far from the area.

Fire danger is spiking in a major way. Smoke has also pushed into Western Washington, leading to plunging air quality. Temperatures near 90 degrees for many backyards.

Areas of smoke and haze across much of the state this weekend. Plus, the fire threat is increases with dry conditions, gusty winds, and low humidity.
