The Seattle Seahawks had a much-improved effort in their second game of the preseason, but it was a costly trip to Nashville as injuries to Jake Bobo, Bud Clark and Mason Richman dampened the mood.

Seattle's second-team offense had a great night against the first-team unit of the Titans, putting together touchdown drives on their first two possessions. Drew Lock was sharp at quarterback, and Jacardia Wright broke off a 69-yard touchdown run with the help of strong blocking across the board.

The defense also held up well against Tennessee's starters, who managed only a field goal on their opening possession.

The game devolved a bit in the second half as penalties racked up and multiple offensive turnovers distorted the final result.

"Look, we're trying to win games," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "So ultimately, the goal is – we fell short in that department, which I actually think it's going to be a really great opportunity for our team to learn from this on how we manage games and the things you need to be able to do in the second half to win football games."

The Seahawks have a quick turnaround to their final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.

Bud Clark, Mason Richman have serious injuries.

Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed rookie safety Bud Clark has a broken ankle, and second-year offensive lineman Mason Richman is also believed to have a long-term injury after a first quarter injury as well.

Clark – a second-round pick out of TCU – was carted off the field in the first quarter with his right leg in a cast just four minutes into the contest.

Clark leaped over a pile of players on the ground on a rushing play by Tony Pollard and had fellow rookie Andre Fuller fall onto his leg as he landed. Clark immediately reached for his right ankle and signaled for help as trainers came to attend to him on the field.

"Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge. Severity, I'm not sure, but he's going to be out multiple months," Macdonald said after the game.

Clark had been battling with A.J. Finley and Rodney Thomas II for the backup safety spots behind Julian Love and Ty Okada. D'Anthony Bell is also in the mix, though he's been primarily filling the role of Nick Emmawori while he's recovering from pre-training camp ankle surgery.

Meanwhile, Thomas didn't play Sunday either due to a recent surgery on his right hand.

"We're going to have to re-evaluate where we're at," Macdonald said. "We saw some good things out of A.J. and D'Anthony," Macdonald said. "So we'll see. Max (Maxen Hook), I think did some good things, but we'll definitely have to re-evaluate."

Richman was injured on the opening drive for the Seahawks. On a pass to Elijah Arroyo, Richman buckled and fell to the turf seemingly without significant contact. Trainers looked at his right leg before he got up and jogged off the field under his own power.

"We're going to try to figure out what's going on with Mason (Richman), but we also think that's a major injury, a long-term injury," Macdonald said.

"Two guys that we love, that play our style of ball, that are our type of guys. Teammates love them. Great teammates, great guys, great football players. They have great futures. It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough."

In addition to Clark and Richman, wide receiver Jake Bobo sustained a season-ending knee injury in Friday's joint practice with the Titans.

Seattle Seahawks safety Bud Clark carted off with right leg injury

Seattle Seahawks safety Bud Clark was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday's preseason game against the Tennessee Titans with his right leg in a cast just four minutes into the contest.

Strong night for the second-team offense.

It seems clear that Mike Macdonald has little intention to play any of his starters in the preseason. And given the injuries to Clark, Richman and Bobo, that's a justifiable stance to have.

But the second-team offense led by Drew Lock had a pretty strong night in Nashville.

Lock went 12-of-14 for 103 yards with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Arroyo, and Jacardia Wright rushed for 81 yards on eight carries along with a 69-yard touchdown run.

"The things we said we wanted to improve on from last week, I think we did those things," Macdonald said. "So operation-wise just how we get in and out of the huddle, how we take the line, all those kind of before-the-play type of things that we wanted to improve on, I think we did, which is great."

Wright's run was the highlight of the night. The offensive line blocked in well as Christian Haynes served as a pulling guard, and then Arroyo and Ricky White III made second-level blocks to get him behind the defense.

"Our coach (Thomas Hammock) tells us to stay A-gap on counter plays. Stay A-gap, and then saw like a little hole off to the right, and shoot, see nothing but green grass and a touchdown. So I took it," Wright said.

First-round pick Jadarian Price hasn't played in the preseason, and Emmanuel Wilson has been sidelined the last two weeks with an injury as well.

Pass rush has some success.

The defense had some success getting to Cam Ward, Mitch Trubisky, and Will Levis throughout the night.

Connor O'Toole ended up with 1.5 sacks, sharing one with Jamie Sheriff, and linebacker Chazz Surratt stripped Ward from behind as he escaped the pocket, forcing a fumble that went out of bounds.

"I think AD (Aden Durde) and Coach (Justin) Hinds put a good rush plan for us just communicating what we were seeing early on in the game," O'Toole said. "Like I said earlier, being able to playoff each other, collapse the pocket on some of the rushes that we had and just knowing the pressures and the rush plans."

Brandon Pili also had a strong push into the backfield on a run play that was notable as well.
