Does law enforcement have off-duty jurisdiction?
Q: If an officer lives outside the area they work, does their jurisdiction end at the city or county limits when they're home and off-duty? -- Chrissa in Maple Valley A: "Well, Chrissa, it's quite common for officers to take their car home. They keep all of their equipment in it, and specialized units especially have their rigs at their house so they can respond at a moments notice. But, they do have jurisdiction. Officers have jurisdiction statewide, so if you see a police car from another agency in your neighborhood, they still can enforce the law. Not that they're going to go around doing chippy stuff in your neighborhood, but you can count on them to help if something big is going on." -- Pierce County Det. Ed Troyer
