'May Day Mayhem' help: Seattle Police asking public to send any photos, video of potential crimes during annual protests
SEATTLE -- It’s been two weeks since five officers were injured and nine people arrested during an anti-capitalist march on May Day in downtown Seattle.
It didn't take long for the violence to break out. Officers were hit with rocks and bottles and responded with pepper spray. We were there right after one officer suffered a serious cut to his face and had to be helped to a van. Detectives are still trying to identify who the suspects were.
A lot of people had phones and cameras at the protest and Seattle Police are hoping they will share their video with them.
"The video we're specifically looking for is if you took pictures of someone actually throwing a projectile such as a rock or a Molotov cocktail or any of those kinds of things. We're looking for that video tape,” says Ret. Det. Myrle Carner with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “You see in some of the shots that officers really got injured in this thing. We're fortunate no one died. Your help is really needed.”
If you have video or any information that can help, you can call Seattle Police at (206) 233-2666 or email MayDayTips@seattle.gov.
