Zetron's 'Shoot for the Stars' golf event raises thousands for families of fallen officers
NEWCASTLE -- More than a hundred first responders and their guests turned out – and tee’d off -- to support The Behind the Badge Foundation earlier this month. Zetron, a Redmond-based company that makes mission critical communications systems hosted the third annual 'Shoot for the Stars' golf tournament at The Golf Club at Newcastle. Former Husky and Seahawks players, along with other local professional sports stars took part in the tournament:
All of the money raised went to Behind the Badge, the non-profit organization that supports the families of fallen officers when tragedy strikes. Michael Jackson was the first sports celebrity to sign up for this great event. "How can you say no. These are first responders, and they put their lives on the line for us every day. They’re firefighters and police officers, so how can you say ‘no’. When you get an opportunity to come and play a game to support a family who's lost a father or loved one, no, you can't say ‘no’ to that.” “It’s really an honor to come out and support the men and women, who in their adversity as first responders, get that call and they show up,” added Nesby Glasgow. “They have to go into fires and fire fights. They have to do a lot of things that they can’t fear and can’t be afraid of, time and time again.” Wayne Foret, Vice President and General Manager of Sales for Zetron Americas talked to us about how important the event is for Zetron. “We do this to support Behind the Badge, and for the first responders that stake their lives for us. We’re all ecstatic to do this because we can give back. If there's somebody coming into your house, and you're hiding in the closet with your family, it's a police officer who's going to run in and stake their life, and put him between the two of us. The same thing with fire fighters. When your house is burning down, and you wish to save the things you love the most, it’s the fire department that comes in and stakes their lives to be able to save those people and things precious to us. So, this golf tournament and great event is just our way to say ‘thank you’ for all the times first responders were there to support us, when we needed them.” The event raised $16,000, with the executive team at Zetron matching the donations for The Behind the Badge Foundation. Zetron tells us they have plans in the works to add a second tournament next year!
