1 jumps from downtown Seattle building to escape fire; 5 injured



SEATTLE -- Five people were taken to the hospital after an apartment building caught fire Monday evening in downtown Seattle.

Firefighters were called to the 1500 block of Boylston Avenue around 5:40 p.m.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, the fire was burning in a unit on the first floor when crews arrived.

Four suffered smoke-related injuries and one person was burned. They were all taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Another person jumped off of the north side of the building to the roof of an adjacent building.

The American Red Cross was assisting a few dozen residents who were displaced by the fire.

It's unclear what may have caused the fire.
