FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - One person was killed in a police shooting Wednesday morning near Interstate 5 in Federal Way.
Investigators say detectives with the King County Sheriff's Office were attempting to arrest a man around 10:23 a.m., saying they had probable cause he was a suspect of a felony assault with a firearm near the Federal Way library. The suspect allegedly sped off in a car, striking patrol vehicles as he escaped.
Detectives pursued and were able to stop the suspect's car near S 317th St and 28th Ave S.
Authorities say they tried to arrest the man again, when the suspect presented "a lethal threat," and deputies opened fire and killed him. No deputies were hurt.
The Valley Independent Investigative Team (VIIT) will take over the investigation, which is standard protocol for shootings involving police officers.
