16-year-old boy nearly drowns in Rattlesnake Lake near North Bend

NORTH BEND -- A 16-year-old was pulled unconscious from Rattlesnake Lake near North Bend Thursday, but a former nurse was there and started CPR on the boy until medics could arrive, Eastside Fire & Rescue said.

The boy was rushed to Overlake Hospital.

Witnesses said the boy was under the water for about three to five minutes before he was pulled out near the boat launch, Eastside Fire & Rescue said.

A spokesman said the fact that he was young and the cold water probably played a big part in the boy's possible survival.

It wasn't immediately known what led up to the boy being under water.

The King County Sheriff's Office said the county beach-monitoring website reported that Rattlesnake Lake was 68 degrees on Tuesday.
