6-year-old boy found dead near Big Four Ice Caves

GRANITE FALLS, Wash. — Search crews on Sunday night found the body of a 6-year-old boy who was reported missing near the Big Four Ice Caves northeast of Seattle.

The boy was reported missing from the trails near the Big Four Ice Caves by family around 6 p.m., the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff's office mobilized a search and rescue operation that included a helicopter deployment.  After more than two hours of searching, the child was located deceased.  Details are limited at this time and the investigation continues.

Identification of the victim, as well as cause and manner of death, will be determined by the medical examiner.

The trail to the popular spot east of Granite Falls, Washington, reopened recently with new warning signs. The trail had been closed since July 6, when rock and ice fell and killed a 34-year-old California woman. Five other people were injured, including the woman's brother, who died of his injuries in October.
