82-year-old woman dies after being hit by bus in Monroe

MONROE, Wash. -- An 82-year-old woman was struck by a Community Transit bus while crossing Main Street Thursday night, police said.

The victim was rushed to Providence Hospital in Everett. Officials said she died early Friday morning.

Police said that she was crossing at the 700 block of Main Street, in a non-crosswalk area, to attend the play "Hello Dolly" at the Frank Wagner Auditorium.

The bus was westbound on Main Street and struck her in the westbound lane, police said. The woman fell to the ground and rolled under a parked minivan.

There was light rain at the time.

The woman's identity has not been released.

Editor's note: Monroe police initially said the woman was 84-years-old, but later corrected the age to 82.
