911 caller: Motorist said he 'had to shoot' at Zimmerman
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A man who made a 911 call on behalf of a motorist who was involved in a shooting with George Zimmerman said the man told him he "had to shoot."
The unidentified man in the 911 call released Tuesday made the call on behalf of Matthew Apperson. Apperson was involved in the shooting with the former neighborhood watch leader in the Orlando suburb of Lake Mary on Monday.
The caller tells a dispatcher that Apperson says he was forced to shoot Zimmerman and that Apperson is requesting that police officers respond.
Documents also released Tuesday show that detectives are investigating the shooting as a possible aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. No charges have been filed.
Zimmerman was acquitted two years ago for fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
