Alleged drunken driver crashes party; partygoers crash him
TACOMA -- An alleged drunken driver who crashed near a house party didn't get a warm welcoming Sunday night in Spanaway, Pierce County Sheriff's detective Ed Troyer said, as party-goers allegedly assaulted him for ruining a fence.
Pierce County sheriff's deputies were called around 11 p.m. Sunday about a possible drunken driver near the intersection of Military Road East and 13th Avenue Court East. The driver, a 61-year-old man, allegedly careened off the road and crashed through a home's wooden fence and into a backyard party.
But the trouble didn't end there.
A group of several people attending the party allegedly took offense to the man ruining the fence, and dragged the intoxicated driver from the vehicle and beat him unconscious, Troyer said.
When police arrived and ordered the men to stop assaulting the driver, the men allegedly grew angry at police and attacked. Deputies used an entire can of pepper spray on the group, and arrested two partygoers.
The driver of the car was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It is unknown at this time if he will be charged with a DUI.
