'Atomic wedgie' killer sentenced to 30 years in prison
SHAWNEE, Ok. -- A man dubbed the "atomic wedgie" killer will spend 30 years behind bars for his actions, the Oklahoman reports.
Brad Lee Davis, 35, pleaded guilty in May to first-degree manslaughter for killing his stepfather with an atomic wedgie -- a move where an assailant pulls the victim's underwear up and over their head.
Denver Lee St. Clair, 58, was knocked unconscious by Davis in December 2013 when the elastic band from his underwear was pulled over his head. The band ended up pressing against St. Clair's throat, the Oklahoman reports, strangling him.
St. Clair also suffered head wounds from the fight with Davis. The judge said a 30-year-sentence was appropriate for Davis, who stood idly by and took pictures of St. Clair as he "gurgled," clearly in distress from the wedgie. The judge also sided with prosecutors, saying Davis likely staged a crime scene following St. Clair's death in order to make the incident look like an "all-out" fight.
Davis claimed he only meant to embarrass his stepfather during the fight. He said the two fought because the victim had insulted his mother.
The judge could have imposed a sentence as little as four years, the Oklahoman reports.
