Beware of jury duty scam
DALLAS – Authorities are warning people of a new scam involving jury duty.
Thieves are calling people and telling them they have failed to respond to a jury duty summons. They warn there is now a warrant out for their arrest. The caller tells them they can get out of the warrant by paying a fine that could cost hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars.
Victims could also be at risk for identity theft when they are asked personal information.
The Better Business Bureau says if a court were to call, it would never ask for personal information. The BBB says if anyone ever gets one of these calls to hang up and contact authorities.
