Detectives arrest suspect in connection with body found under Olympia bridge

Olympia detectives arrested a 24-year-old man Thursday night in connection with a suspicious death earlier this week.

Lt. Paul Lower told FOX 13 News that a body was discovered near the 5th Avenue Bridge in downtown Olympia at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said the body of a man in his 40s was in a sleeping bag under the bridge.

Detectives found evidence that the victim was in a physical assault and witnesses were able to identify a suspect.

The Thurston County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy but has yet to determine the specific cause of death. The medical examiner said the victim had facial fractures from the physical altercation before he died.

On Thursday night, the suspect was found and arrested. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Olympia Police Department detectives at 360-753-8300.
