Cleanup continues at former Nickelsville site
SEATTLE - Workers continue to clean up up debris and garbage at the former homeless encampment known as Nickelsville. The deadline for residents to move from the site has come and gone, but the site remains littered with various garbage, belongings and trash. The Seattle City Council voted in July to close Nickelsville, which was located along West Marginal Way South in south Seattle. More than a hundred of the former residents moved to three alternate locations: Martin Luther King Jr Way South and South 129th, 20th Street and Jackson Street, and 22nd Street and Union Street.
The Nickelsville Works Facebook page is asking for volunteers to come to the former site today, located at 7116 W. Marginal Way SW, to help with the cleanup. Help is needed to move fourteen wooden structures. Donations of snacks and soda are also requested.
