Deputy shoots woman pointing weapon at traffic
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy shot a woman who was reportedly pointing a weapon at passing motorists south of Spokane.
The sheriff's office said in a news release that deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers responded to reports of a person pointing a weapon on Highway 195 at Excelsior Road Monday afternoon.
The office says a deputy shot the suspect after contact was made with her. She was taken to a local hospital.
Her condition, identity and type of weapon have not been released.
The sheriff's office says they will release the deputy's name "at a later date."
A regional team with people from multiple law enforcement agencies is investigating.
Once the investigation is finished, the case will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.
