Everett woman appears in court on animal cruelty charge; protesters cheer

EVERETT, Wash. -- An Everett woman was charged with animal cruelty after posting photos on her Facebook page that appeared to show her dog with a urine-soaked "peepee hat" over its head.

Protesters were there to greet her as Lisa Parker walked into court Friday.

People started emailing and calling Animal Control when they saw the photos of her dog on her Facebook page. And police started questioning Parker.

The prosecutor decided to file charges after interviewing witnesses, who said justice prevailed on Friday.

"Very happy, we got what we came here for, justice was served; she has to surrender the dog in 24 hours," said Jennifer, one of the protesters outside the court.

Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor crime with a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
