Family moves into 'dream home,' finds notes claiming they're being watched

WESTFIELD, N.J. -- Shortly after moving into a new home, the family started receiving cryptic, menacing letters from a mystery person who claimed to be watching them and their children.

The family paid more than a million dollars for their "dream home," a large 6-bedroom house in Westfield, New Jersey.

According to CBSNY, the family claims the previous owners were aware of a man who called himself "the watcher," but they never said anything.

The current owners say since they moved in, they've received numerous letters from the mystery man who claims the home "has been the subject of my family for decades" and "I have been put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming."

Other notes found include: "Have they found what's in the walls yet?" and "I am pleased to know your names now and the name of the young blood you have brought to me."

The strange incident even caught the attention of the mayor who addressed the issue at a town council meeting Tuesday.

"Our police department conducted an exhaustive investigation based on the factual circumstances and evidence available."

The mayor says the letters are classified as a disorderly person's crime.

So far, nobody has been charged, and it's unclear if the new owner's have any legal case.
