Federal agent shoots narcotics suspect in Lakewood



LAKEWOOD -- It happened just before 8 p.m. Wednesday as a narcotics investigation was being conducted in Lakewood.

A vehicle being driven by one of the suspects was stopped at 108th Street Southwest and 47th Avenue Southwest but police say the driver failed to comply with commands to stop.

Investigators say the suspect tried to flee the scene and struck a U.S. Homeland Security agent in one of his legs with his car.

The agent then fired his weapon, hitting the suspect.

He was transported to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

The Homeland Security agent was also transported to the hospital for the injury to his leg.

His condition is unknown as well and his name has not yet been released.

Officers and agents from the Lakewood Police Special Operations Unit, U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcements, Homeland Security Investigations, and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were assisting.

The Lakewood Police Department Major Crimes Unit will be conducting the shooting investigation and more information will be released at a later time when it becomes available.
