First look at PNB's new Nutcracker set designed by creator of 'Olivia the Pig'
SEATTLE -- Designers at the Pacific Northwest Ballet are working feverishly to finish the brand new sets for The Nutcracker later this year.
Previous sets, designed by famed children's author and illustrator Maurice Sendak, were retired last season after more than 30 years.
The new set was designed by another wildly popular author and illustrator of children's books, Ian Falconer. Falconer created the much loved Olivia the Pig series.
Q13 FOX News Meteorologist M.J. McDermott got a first look at a few pieces of the new set and was given permission to share a few of her photos publicly.
"The first photo is of the scrim that will cover the entire stage," said M.J. "I took the photo from a lift. The design looks like a wall, and the painter (who is sitting on the floor painting) looks like she is in mid-air!"
The new version of The Nutcracker will feature the new set design, new costumes all in conjunction with George Balanchine's 1954 choreography.
