Foot chase spurs officer-involved shooting
SEATTLE -- Police officers shot and injured a woman late Wednesday night near a motel in North Seattle following a foot chase, the Seattle Police Department said.
Police were "dispatched to a disturbance" around 11 a.m. Wednesday night at the Seals Motel on Aurora Avenue North, Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt said. Once arriving, they viewed a "disturbance" in front of the hotel where a 19-year-old female allegedly spotted the police and took of running.
Police chased the woman behind a business in the 12500 block of Aurora Avenue North. Police contacted the woman, Witt said, and "during that encounter" a shot was fired and the woman was struck in the lower leg. The woman was transported to Harborview Medical center with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was uninjured.
It is unclear why or even if it was police who fired at the woman.
Homicide and crime scene investigators are currently investigating the incident.
