Groundbreaking ceremony held for new aquarium at Point Defiance Zoo

TACOMA -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday for a new aquarium at the Point Defiance Zoo.

It is set to open in the summer of 2018 and replace the aging North Pacific Aquarium.

The zoo says it will hold new ocean species such as scalloped hammerhead sharks, green sea turtles and spotted eagle rays.

The main exhibit will be called Baja Bay and will give visitors the feel of the waters of Baja California.

Construction is set to start next month.
