Halloween costume featuring toy gun triggers school lockdown
WENATCHEE -- A woman in a Halloween costume featuring a fake assault rifle prompted a lockdown and a police response when she inadvertently walked in front of an elementary school Thursday afternoon, the Wenatchee World reported.
According to the World, a woman in her 20s carrying a fake assault rifle walked in front of the Lewis and Clark Elementary School in the 1000 block of Princeton Street around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. A passerby thought her toy gun was real and called 911. The school was put on lockdown until they found the fake gun-toting woman at an area apartment, where they kindly gave her some advice.
"We told her that carrying a weapon like that was probably not the wisest of ideas," Wenatchee Police Department Sgt. Jim West told the World.
The lockdown ended shortly after police located the woman.
