Honey, can I have that ring back? Seattle man sues ex-fiancee
SEATTLE -- He dumped her before they made it down the aisle and now he wants the ring back.
According to court documents filed May 8, a Seattle man is suing his former fiancee in the hopes that she will return the $19,000 engagement ring he gave her.
The man claims his ex, a woman from Carnation, has refused to return the two-carat diamond ring after he broke off their engagement in April. According to the lawsuit, the man admitted he gave the woman the ring, but only under the condition they would wed.
Washington's law on the issue is somewhat convoluted. In 1990, a Washington State Appeals Court ruled the engagement ring giver should get it back if the recipient breaks off their engagement, the PI reported. However, the ring recipient gets to keep the ring if the engagement was unjustifiably broken by the giver.
The former lovers will be reunited for a hearing later this month before a King County Superior Court judge.
