Liquid Tamiflu in short supply right now

SEATTLE -- It seems the flu season is not slowing down and the one medication that helps is in short supply.

Health officials said a shortage of the liquid form of Tamiflu is making it tough for those battling the illness. The reason for the shortage is that prescriptions were given to people who do not need to take it.

While Tamiflu is available in capsule form, the liquid version is often given to children younger than 13, or people who have trouble swallowing pills. It is approved for babies as young as two weeks old.

Health officials said the liquid Tamiflu shortage is expected to be brief.
