Macklemore, Ryan Lewis nominated for six MTV awards

SEATTLE -- Local artist Macklemore continued his year of musical dominance Wednesday after MTV announced he and Ryan Lewis were nominated for six MTV Video Music Awards, tying Justin Timberlake for most this year.

Macklemore and Lewis were nominated for Video of the Year with their song "Thrift Shop", Best Video with a Social Message for their song on equality called "Same Love", Best Hip Hop Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing.  The nominations mark Macklemore's first for the MTV Video Music Awards. The group had the year's best selling single.

Timberlake earned Video of the Year award nominations for "Mirrors," as well as a nomination for Best Collaboration with Jay-Z for their song, "Suit & Tie." Timberlake, a seasoned musical vet, has already won seven VMAs.
