Man accused of burning woman, son to death held on bail

PASCO, Wash. (AP) — A Connell man accused of killing his 18-year-old girlfriend and her 3-year-old son is being held on $1 million bail.

The Tri-City Herald reports that Maria Cruiz-Calvillo and Luis Lopez-Cruz were identified Monday as the bodies found last week inside a vehicle that was set on fire in a ravine. The Franklin County coroner Dan Blasdel says Luis was likely still alive when the car was set ablaze.

Prudencio Juan Fragos-Ramirez was arrested in connection to the pair hours into the investigation. He appeared in Franklin County Superior Court Monday, at which time his bail was set.

Blasdel says Cruiz-Calvillo and Luis both had gunshot wounds. Tests to determine if they were alive when the fire started have been requested.
