Maple Valley family wants justice after husband, father of 2 killed in head-on crash
MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- David Stevenson says he wants justice for his son-in-law, Mike Brooks. The Maple Valley husband and father of two was killed as he headed into work Tuesday morning in Issaquah.
“He was just absolutely dedicated to her and those kids,” Stevenson said of Brooks on Wednesday.
On Tuesday morning, King County sheriff`s deputies spotted a Kia driving erratically on Highway 18 and started a pursuit. Deputies backed off for safety reasons when the driver, traveling at a high rate of speed, failed to stop and exited the highway. But a short time later, deputies came upon a crash. They say the suspect hit Brooks vehicle head-on. Brooks died at the scene.
“That individual needs to be responsible for those decisions,” Stevenson said.
The driver is out of jail because King County prosecutors say they need to investigate more before charging the driver, a 26-year-old Tacoma man. Deputies say he had an infant in the back seat.
Wednesday night, Brooks' family was grieving -- the ones who loved him all his life and the ones he loved for all of theirs.
Stevenon said, “His kids said it best, I suppose. They said, ‘My daddy is the greatest man I know. He was a good man, a really good man. Why does he have to die?’”
